Creating Multiple Costs of Goods Sold (COGS) Rules

Adding a New Rule

Go to WooCommerce > Cost of Goods Settings > Rules and Click the “Add New” button. While creating a new Cost of Goods Rule, customize the following settings:

Title: 

Add Title: Provide a clear and descriptive title for your cost rule

Restrictions:

Specify Products and Categories: Enable this option to apply the rule to all products. Leave it unchecked to specify products and categories

Select Product: Choose specific products to which this rule should apply

Select Category: Select categories to which this rule should apply

Select Cost Type: Define the cost type:

  • Fixed
  • Percentage

Enter Cost Amount: Input the cost amount

After configuring the settings, click “Publish” to save the changes you have made.

Managing All COGS Rules in a Log 

Navigate to WooCommerce > Cost of Goods Settings.

View multiple rules for Cost of Goods, perform bulk actions, search for specific rules in the search bar, and apply filters based on dates.

Configuring General Settings

Customize how your WooCommerce store handles costs and reporting. Go to WooCommerce > Cost of Goods Settings > Settings tab to configure the following settings: 

1. Apply costs to previous orders

Apply and override the costs on all your orders: Check this box to apply and override costs on all your product orders

2. Pagination

Items per page in the Sales Report table: Set the number of items you want to view per page in the Sales Report table. The default value is 20

Items per page in the Stock Report table: Set the number of items you want to view per page in the Stock Report table. The default value is 20

3. Add columns to the report

Add a tag column to report: Check this box to display a tag column for products in the report table

Add a percentage margin column to report: Check this box to display a percentage margin column for products in the report table

4. Order Settings

Select Order Statuses: Choose the order statuses you want to include:

  • Pending payment
  • Processing
  • On hold
  • Completed
  • Cancelled
  • Refunded
  • Failed
  • Draft

Show Total Cost Column: Show the total cost column in the orders post table

Show Profit Column: Display the Profit column in the orders post table

Currency Symbol: Show a currency symbol with the price in the sales report and stock report.

Accessing Sales Report

To access sales statistics, go to WooCommerce > Cost of Goods Settings > Sales Report tab. Within this section, you can conveniently analyze sales data for all your products. You have the flexibility to select from various time frames and date ranges, including:

  •  Year
  •  Last Month
  •  This Month
  •  Last 7 Days
  •  Custom Date Range (mm/dd/yyyy – mm/dd/yyyy)

After selecting your desired time frame or custom date range, click “GO” to generate the report. You can also choose to export the data as a CSV file.

Key Metrics at a Glance:

At the bottom of the page, you’ll also find a summary table that provides essential metrics:

  • Revenue
  • Total Cost Of Goods
  • Total Shipping
  • Total Order Fee
  • Total Product Tax

Specific Product and Category Sales Stats:

To view sales statistics for specific products, navigate to the “Specific Products” tab. If you want to analyze sales data for specific categories, go to the “Specific Categories” tab.

Accessing Stock Report

In addition to the sales report, you have the option to access a comprehensive stock report. To do so, navigate to WooCommerce > Cost of Goods Settings and click on the “Stock Report” tab. The stock table provides valuable insights through the following columns:

  • Product
  • Stock Status
  • Product Price
  • Product Total Price
  • Product Cost
  • Product Total Cost
  • Potential Profit
  • Actions

Export CSV: 

Click the “Export CSV” button to download the stock report in a CSV format 

Specific Product and Category Sales Stats:

To view stock statistics for specific products, navigate to the “Specific Products” tab. If you want to analyze sales data for specific categories, go to the “Specific Categories” tab.

Importing CSV to Update Cost Of Goods

Within the “Import” tab, you’ll find a convenient option for importing your cost of goods CSV file. Simply select the CSV file you wish to use for updating your cost of goods, and then proceed by clicking the “Continue” button. To unlock and apply new prices to the cost of goods, be sure to enable the “Unlock Cost of Goods” checkbox.

Adding Costs at Product Level

For product-level settings, go to WP Admin Panel > Products. Select the product you want to modify, and then click on it to edit its details.

Within the product editing interface, navigate to the “General” tab and scroll down to the “Cost of Goods“. Here, you can easily input or modify the product’s cost of goods. 

IMPORTANT: If you want to ensure that this cost isn’t overridden by a custom Cost of Goods (COGS) rule, don’t forget to enable the “Lock Cost of Goods” option.
