How to Create Rules to Split Orders Automatically?

Creating Rules to Split Orders Automatically

The automatic order splitting feature is important for WooCommerce store owners who manage complex logistics. For instance, stores selling products from multiple suppliers or with varied shipping requirements can streamline order processing by automatically splitting orders based on products, categories, or user roles. This ensures that customers receive timely shipments even if their order contains items that need to be shipped separately. It also reduces errors in manual handling and saves time by automating the entire process.

Follow the steps below to apply this functionality:

In your WordPress dashboard, go to WooCommerce. Click on Advanced Split Order to access the settings page.

Once inside the Advanced Split Order interface, click the Add New Rule button to begin creating a new rule.

In the Add Title field, give your split order rule a descriptive and unique name. This will help you easily identify it later, especially if you have multiple rules.

Configure Rule Details:

  • Select Products: Choose specific products that will trigger the split when included in an order. You can search for and select the products from your catalog.
  • Select Categories: Pick categories that will trigger the order split. This is useful when you want the rule to apply to entire groups of products, like “Electronics” or “Clothing.”
  • Select User Roles: Choose specific user roles, such as “Wholesale Customers” or “Retail Customers,” if the rule should only apply to them. If left blank, the rule applies to all users.

Note: The rule will activate when an order contains the selected products, categories, or user roles.

Configure Post Attributes:

  • Order Priority: Assign a priority level to this rule. If you have multiple rules, WooCommerce will execute higher-priority rules first.

Choose Order Type:

In the Separate Order Type field, select how you want the orders to be split:

  • Single: Creates a single separate order for the selected products.
  • Multiple: Creates multiple orders for each selected product.

Configure Quantity Split Type (For Multiple Orders):

If you select “Multiple” in the previous step, the following additional option will appear:

  • Split Order by Quantity: Creates separate orders based on the quantity of products (e.g., split an order of 10 items into 2 orders with 5 items each).
  • Split Order by Product: Generates separate orders for each individual product within the order.

After completing all the fields, review the rule configuration. Click the Publish button to save and activate the new split order rule.
